Overview

Aline Jaeckel is an Associate Professor at ANCORS and an Affiliate Scholar at the Research Institute for Sustainability at the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam (formerly IASS) in Germany.

With a background in international law, she works on ocean governance and marine resource management. She has a particular interest in deep seabed mining and has researched the regulation and governance of this emerging industry for over a decade.

She is particularly interested in the science-law-policy interface and collaborates with marine and social scientists, including through the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI), to analyse how the emerging regulatory framework for seabed mining can reflect current scientific knowledge and good governance standards.

Aline acts as a government advisor and has conducted several consultancies. She currently holds a DECRA Fellowship from the Australian Research Council and sits on the editorial board of Marine Policy. Aline is passionate about the underexplored parts of the ocean and its deep-sea ecosystems.
