Overview
Dr. Kazumi Wakita is a visiting fellow at ANCORS in Australia and a professor at Tokai University in Japan. Through her career which includes Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) as a programme officer of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Ocean Policy Research Institute in Japan, she has been working mainly on integrated coastal management with national and local governments and stakeholders, especially fishermen.
Her interests are socio-ecological systems and people’s psychological aspects which promote conservation and sustainable use of the ocean.
Reflecting her working experiences and educational backgrounds in multiple disciplines, she enjoys interdisciplinary projects and serves for committees of various sectors, such as Fisheries Agency and Ministry of the Environment of Japan. Kazumi is a member of Group of Experts on Marine Spatial Planning Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-WESTPAC) as well as a member of Advisory Group of IOC-WESTPAC.
