Katy Seto Publishes New Study into Unregulated Squid Fishing

The study, published in Science Advances, found that these squid fishing vessels fished largely (86%) in unregulated areas, equating to 4.4 million total hours of fishing time between 2017-2020. While unregulated fishing is not necessarily illegal, it presents challenges for fisheries sustainability and resource equity, and has been connected to questionable human rights and labor practices.

41st Meeting of CCAMLR

The 2022 meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) was held from 24 October to 4 November at the Commission headquarters in Hobart. This was the first meeting for Ecuador as a member of the Commission. Ecuador’s admission brings the total number of Commission members to 27.
